Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television anchor for a journalist as well as a commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. As a child with her family in New York City, Mitchell graduated with a BA degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington she was made general correspondent for NBC News a year later. Since 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was appointed the top of the congressional reporters. She became the Chief White House reporter in 1992 and the head of the Foreign Affairs department at NBC News. Mitchell has been on the TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist as well as host. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the debate in 1988 in the 1988 debate between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her contribution in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering for the White House in 1981-1988 for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's second term as president. She covered many notable stories including arms control, taxes on the budget, as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
